I am an MMO Junky, I am not afraid to admit it.

Ever since I got started playing Final Fantasy XI, I have been hooked.  I am what they call “hardcore” player, although the terms hardcore and casual are so fucking nebulous that they could mean virtually anything at this point.  I am not going to regurgitate that debate, because frankly the whole discussion is pointless.

But I know I am a “hardcore” player, I play World of Warcraft daily, and usually for at least two-three hours at a time, with vastly increased play time on the weekends.  I have at least ten alts that are around level 20 and some as high as 49 to 60.  I still get out and do normal real-life stuff on occasion but I spend a great deal of time gaming.  But when I am not gaming I am usually reading up about other games, aspects of gaming, and guild stuff.  I guess in some small way, gaming is a large part of my life at this point in time.

But I am always looking for that next big thing.

I think Warhammer Online (WAR) may be the next big MMO, although some might say Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (LOTRO) is the current next best thing but I don’t think so.  The game is fun, beautiful, and filled with content; but some of the execution is uneven.  Instances are slog-fests with multiple runs just to complete one quest.  Combat is odd with the long delay between starting the ability and the ability actually going off on screen.  But I suppose the major reason why I stopped playing is because I just found World of Warcraft to be more enjoyable at the high end.

Perhaps I am just too much of a “raider” as some would call me.  Really I just see myself as a consumer of content, if you put it in the game and I like it, I will do it.  I will throw myself at the content like a crusader trying to retake the Holy Land.

I still have my doubts about WAR, I am not the biggest PvP dude, but I like the content and the intellectual property; plus the humor seems spot on for what I am into.  Being a Warhammer fan of the role playing game, and the miniatures game, though more vicarious in the latter I am intrigued to see what they do.

Oh well, that won’t be till 2008 at the earliest unless I get a beta key; i.e. I want a fucking beta key, but I digress.

But oh well Zul’Aman should be out relatively soon for World of Warcraft… I can’t fucking wait!
