Nine million world –wide subscribers; although huge by North American standards it is still pretty small considering some of the Asian MMO’s that claim to have as many as 50 million subscribers, but the models are so different overseas that I am not sure if they are worthy of comparison. It is no question that World of Warcraft has consumed the genre, it is the 8,000 pound gorilla and is the king of the heap and still going strong. (more…)

I am an MMO Junky, I am not afraid to admit it.

Ever since I got started playing Final Fantasy XI, I have been hooked.  I am what they call “hardcore” player, although the terms hardcore and casual are so fucking nebulous that they could mean virtually anything at this point.  I am not going to regurgitate that debate, because frankly the whole discussion is pointless.

But I know I am a “hardcore” player, I play World of Warcraft daily, and usually for at least two-three hours at a time, with vastly increased play time on the weekends.  I have at least ten alts that are around level 20 and some as high as 49 to 60.  I still get out and do normal real-life stuff on occasion but I spend a great deal of time gaming.  But when I am not gaming I am usually reading up about other games, aspects of gaming, and guild stuff.  I guess in some small way, gaming is a large part of my life at this point in time. When I think of a Paladin, I am often struck with the D&D model of the righteous holy warrior wading into combat smiting my enemies with holy vigilance. A warrior who is so filled with faith and goodness that they know no fear and stand for everything that is good in the world. This is the image that aspired to when I played Final Fantasy XI, and one of the reasons why I enjoyed that game so much.

The other was being a shield for my allies, and holding the enemy at bay while the party burned it down. My first gaming experience was tanking and I was pretty terrible at first but once I understood how it worked, I was pretty damn good at it, even Japanese players were surprised at how well I played. But when I tired of that game I moved on to Everquest II and then World of Warcraft, and in both I played a rogue class and did DPS. (more…)

Well <Taurential Reign> is moving right along.  We cleared the Shade of Aran last night, opening up the second half og Karazhan to attempts, which will hopefully yield some purples from the Prince, Netherspite.  We continue to grow much faster then I had anticipated, skill wise and once we get a few upgrades to our DPS we will be tearing through Karazhan at a rapid pace.  I don’t have much else to say other then I am quite proud of our achievements and I am glad to be the MT for this guild and get us off to a good start.  Aran can be a fairly difficult fight but we got him down and made him pay for his madness.

Hopefully we can walk away tonight with a Tier 4 Helmet for our troubles.  Oh and only two weeks till Blizzcon, it will be awesome.

I have been playing World of Warcraft for about two years, or maybe more then that; I was a late started and didn’t get hooked till about January of 2005. I started playing as an undead rogue, which pretty much cemented my love for the horde. But as most players I created several alts, one of which was a dwarf paladin which I ended up loving more then I thought I would. (more…)
